Here is Steve's Story:
Steve Walter, 41, was diagnosed with Lyme disease. He was bitten by a tick at Black Sandy Campground last summer. The diagnosis of Lyme disease took many months of tests and multiple doctors to finally figure out what he had. After daily infusions for a couple months the Lyme disease has been killed. With his immune system weakened from the Lyme disease he developed an infection in his spinal cord causing Cauda Equina Syndrome. Cauda Equina Syndrome has left him with numbness and tingling from the waist down and loss of muscle mass in his lower extremities. He also completely lost all bladder & bowel function which is permanent. After local doctors were not able to find out what was causing the infection in his spinal cord he went to a top neurological hospital in Salt Lake City, UT in hopes of answers. To date they still have not found an answer to the spinal cord infection and continue to run tests to determine what is causing this. His white blood cell count continues to elevate.
Steve has been unable to work for a little over 3 months. He was able to collect short term disability from his employer for 3 months which has ended and his employer does not offer long term disability. He was able to keep health insurance while on short term disability through FMLA which ends November 30, 2014.
Steve is a father to two beautiful children, son Derek who is 16 and daughter Delanie who is 8.
We are asking for the communities help with his continued expenses. We have set up an account through Valley Bank called "Strength for Steve" and plan to hold a benefit January 31, 2015 at the VFW in East Helena, MT.
Thank you in advance for your consideration
