Snow Lovers Ski or Snowshoe
12:00 PM
Charter Oak Mill & Mine
Snow Lovers Ski or Snowshoe Description:
Snow Lovers--get out for an afternoon excursion on Valentine's Day into the Charter Oak mill and mine site. Beginning at the Little Blackfoot River Road we will take an easy ski or snowshoe along the Little Blackfoot River. Charter Oak was a lode mine and mill active off and on from 1916 to the 1970s and is one of the few intact sites of that era remaining that is available for touring. The historical buildings and equipment left on site standout in the snow, offering unique opportunities for sight-seeing and photography.
Located just south of Elliston in the Little Blackfoot River drainage, travel west from Helena on US Highway 12 for 22 miles to the Little Blackfoot River turnoff (Forest Road 227) Turn south of the highway and continue 2.9 miles until the road forks. Follow the right fork for 1.3 miles. There will be a marked parking lot on the left hand side of the road. The Montana Discovery Foundation can supply snowshoes if needed. Call in advance for reservations--495-3711.

All programs provided in partnership with the Helena National Forest.
For more information, please call the Montana Discovery Foundation at 406-495-3711.
