Bat Walks
9:00 PM
Montana WILD
Description:
Explore the fascinating world of bats this summer with Matt Bell at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Ave., just off U.S. Highway 12 West near Spring Meadow Lake State Park.
Bat walks are set for June 6 and 20, July 11 and 25, Aug. 8 and 22.
Bell has studied bats in the Helena area for the past nine years. An avid bat enthusiast, he'll use ultrasound detection devices to allow participants to hear the sounds of bat echolocation--or bat communication--as they navigate and forage for insects.
On the walk, participants will learn about bat myths, the seasonal and daily habits of bats, the variety of bat species, how scientists use acoustic data to identify a bat species, and how to build a bat house. Please bring a flashlight.
The walks are free, but limited to 20 people. Reserve a place by calling Montana Wild at 406-444-9944. The walks will begin at dusk. Please bring a flashlight.
