As a part of the Popes and Patristics Lecturer Series, the Hunthausen Professor of Peace and Justice and Department of Theology at Carroll College brings you former Carroll College faculty member Dr. Brian Matz, the Sisters of St. Joseph Endowed Chair of Catholic Thought at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri, to discuss early Christian thoughts on wealth within the Roman empire.
Dr. Brian Matz is the now the Sisters of St. Joseph Endowed Chair of Catholic Thought at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. He holds doctoral degrees both in the history of Christianity and in Christian social ethics. His research spans subjects as diverse as Greek patristic theology, patristic economic and healthcare ethics, the history of Carolingian Europe and the history of religious life in Montana during the 1800s. He has published four monographs, has edited two books, has authored more than two dozen articles and is a regular presenter at conferences on patristics, ethics and on medieval Christianity. Dr. Matz was recently named to the editorial board of the thirty-volume Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception and is currently working on a project to translate all of the texts associated with the filioque controversy during the ninth century. This event is free and open to the public.
