CANCELLED "Who Is My Neighbor?" Let's Talk About It
7:00 PM
Plymouth Church - United Church of Christ
Description:
Rev. Dr. Randy Mayer from Good Shepherd Church in Sahuarita, AZ, along with borderlands' musician, Pablo Peregrina, will present a program featuring their work among refugees along the southern border. Rev. Mayer, a native of Helena, is internationally recognized for his ministry in southern Arizona and Mexico, providing much needed supplies to those who have little or nothing as they flee crime and poverty in Central America. Pablo, lyricist, guitarist and performer, will add the sound of the borderlands to the evening's program. A dessert buffet follows. There is a $15 fee for Thursday evening program and reception; all other events are free. The four-day event continues with related programming describing concerns in the Helena community, not just with refugees from distant places, but our "neighbors" who live among us. Who are they? How are their needs being met? What needs to happen? On Friday May 1, clergy and lay leaders are invited to join Randy for breakfast served at the church beginning at 9:00 AM. At 4:30 on the same day a panel consisting of representatives of Hands On Global, Indian Education for All, and Helena College will present a summary of their work; snacks and beverages provided. Saturday May 2 the public is invited to visit three local service agencies - the Willis Cruse House, Farm in the Dell, and the Leo Pocha Clinic - will provide open houses from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. Lastly, Randy and Pablo will lead worship at Plymouth beginning at 10:00 AM with a reception following. Please register your intent to participate in any of the listed activities by calling the church office on or before April 22.
