“The Local Honeys come from a long line of storytellers, a lineage of strong Kentucky women that aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, their self-titled La Honda debut is proof it’s in their bones. The duo have mastered the art of telling a good story. The narratives and landscapes they weave into song, the deep understanding and love they share for old time traditions, their undeniable charisma and charm, and their blatant disregard to follow the rules make it clear the duo is poised to become not only the defining voices of their home state of Kentucky but the defining voices of a new Appalachia.
Throughout The Local Honeys, the duo demand to be interpreted as creators and storytellers, not just purveyors of tradition. Similarly, the sounds captured within the project cement their place as innovators and rule breakers. Rollicking banjo meets overdriven guitar hooks and blue collar rural grit is met with lush melodies and nimble harmonies; it’s a project filled with juxtaposition and it isn’t by accident.
Lena Rich’s sound is entirely self-assured as well as unique to her. Through layers of moving instrumentals, an unabashed honesty with herself, and an eye for experimentation, Lena’s vocals and pen lead with vigour, charm, and simultaneous softness and strength” (Atwood Magazine).
With sharp lyrics and poignant melodies, she weaves themes of human connection and the magic of moments that linger—crafting songs that stay with you like a favorite photograph. Her sound—a warm blend of atmospheric Americana and folk—is grounded in roots music yet unmistakably her own. Joined by multi-instrumentalist Cabot Metz on pedal steel, banjo, and guitar, the duo creates a soundscape that feels far bigger than its parts—both intimate and expansive. Lena has shared stages with artists like Anaïs Mitchell (Bonny Light Horseman) and Antje Duvekot, and performed at renowned festivals including Red Ants Pants and Ossipee Valley. A distinctive voice in the Americana landscape, she continues to carve out her own path with authenticity. Her upcoming album, King Tide, will be released in fall 2025.
