More than 80 all-star soccer athletes come to Helena every summer help bring awareness to mental illness, share their skills with area children who attend the free kids' clinic, and spend a little time kicking balls around with children being served at Shodair.
The 18th annual Shodair Classic is set for Sat., July 8 with games at 3 and 5 p.m. at Nelson Stadium at Carroll College, which is co-hosting the events.
The Soccer Classic features top student athletes from high schools across the state. More than 80 outstanding young men and women are considered before being selected to participate in the event. Players must have been selected as All-State and All-Conference high school players in Class AA or A, demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and citizenship. The Shodair Soccer Classic also attracts a talented coaching staff from around the state to help the teams. Many have winning records in state tournaments, and their skills assure top-level competition.
Proceeds from the event support the philanthropic efforts. Individual tickets are $5 or a family can attend for $10.
