Men’s Lunch League at Touchmark on Saddle Drive. Wayne O’Brien, City of Gold Club Toastmaster, will talk about giving speeches. According to the Independent Record: “For Toastmaster extraordinaire Wayne O’Brien, a great speech is all about the story it tells. On May 3, O’Brien won the Toastmasters four-state district tournament in Bismarck, North Dakota, and he will head to Malaysia in August where he competes to become the World Champion of Public Speaking. He will be one of 90 competitors going for what he calls the ‘Holy Grail’ of public speaking. They are the remaining pool of contestants from the original 35,000 who started out competing in clubs, internationally, to get there. A City of Gold Club Toastmaster for 27 years, O’Brien’s been competing for 15 of these. This is the furthest he’s ever gotten. Getting to compete and advance to the finals of the World Championship of Public Speaking has been on O’Brien’s bucket list for years, he said. ‘I’ve now attained what I wanted to do.’ Although O’Brien makes his living talking with people as president of Montana Marketing, he admitted that standing up in front of a group didn’t come easily for him. ‘It’s the number one fear people have,’ he said. ‘People don’t do public speaking because it scares the daylights out of them.’” There is no charge.
