Description:
Lewis & Clark Library Partners with St. Peter’s Health to Offer Safe Sitter Course

Your Lewis & Clark Library is pleased to announce a partnership with St. Peter’s Health to offer a monthly Safe Sitter course for students in grades 6-8. The Library will begin offering the two day Safe Sitter course on September 29. The course lasts all day from 10AM-4PM and participants must attend both days.

Participants will learn basic babysitting responsibilities, safety concerns, age appropriate entertainment, babysitting as a business, how to deal with medical emergencies, and what to do when a child chokes. Find out more about the Safe Sitter organization at www.safesitter.org

Enrollment is limited to 6-8 students per class, a standard directed by the National Safe Sitter Organization. Students must pass a written exam and rescue breathing/choking on a mannequin in order receive a "certificate of completion." Participants must attend both days of the session.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Registration will open on the first of each month for that month’s class; participants must call and speak to someone at the Information Desk (447.1690) or the Teen Services Librarian at 447.6683. Each session will meet on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm both days in the Library’s Large Meeting Room unless otherwise noted.

Teen Services Librarian Heather Dickerson is excited about the partnership explaining that, “curriculum is provided through Safe Sitter; the library is a registered site, and I am registered as an instructor.” Dickerson encourages parents, guardians, and potential participants to visit SafeSitter.com to learn more about the value of the program.

Individuals interested in taking the September course can begin registering September 4th by calling 406-447-1690 ext 5. Registration for the October class will begin October 1st.
