All the Sign Text That Isn’t Fit to Print
4:30 PM
Montana Historical Society (east of the Capitol)
Description:
Since 1990, property owners have placed more than 1,700 Montana Historical Society National Register signs at historically significant properties around the state. While these signs tell important stories about the property’s history and architecture, a strict word count and owner discretion often prohibit telling some sad, spooky, and scandalous stories. In this seasonally appropriate presentation MHS interpretive historian Christine Brown will highlight intriguing, silly, sometimes macabre, and tragic stories that never made it onto various National Register signs. These stories left on the cutting room floor range from abusive husbands and powerful widows to suicide, robbery, and runaway horses. Appropriate for ages 13 and up.
