Buying a Telescope

Are you thinking of buying a telescope as a present this year? A telescope can be the gateway to our universe at large and can spark an interest in astronomy and science that will last a lifetime. But there are a lot of possibilities to choose from--and it isn't always easy to figure out what might be your best purchase.

Please join the Helena Astronomical Society on Saturday, November 10 at 6 pm at the Montana WILD Auditorium for an informative program on how to buy a telescope. Our members have combined decades of owning and using telescopes and can help shed some light on what to look for--and what to avoid--when making a telescope purchase.

We'll cover the main options for viewing the night sky--naked eye, binoculars, spotting scopes, and 2 types of telescopes, highlighting the pros and cons of each. We'll also talk about accessories for safe solar viewing and handy things to have. Weather permitting we will also be able to demonstrate some small and not so small telescopes.

Montana WILD is located at 2668 Broadwater Avenue, Helena, MT 59601. For more information, please see the HAS web page at https://helena-astronomical-society.org or contact Jeff Ross at (406) 980-0533.

We hope to see you there!
