5th Annual Shira Greenberg's Nutcracker on the Rocks Description:
Cohesion Dance Project presents Helena’s 5th Annual Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks, Saturday, November 25 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 26 at 2:00 PM at the Helena Civic Center Auditorium. This community based, rock-n-roll rendition of the Nutcracker features the music of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and more! The unique performance presents a more familiar Party Scene, with the exception of the live Harley Davidson on stage, then takes the audience through twists and turns as it journeys through the decades visiting the roaring 20’s, a sock hop of the 50’s, and flower power of the 60’s. One exciting scene after another showcases a unique and energetic fusion of dancers and dance styles.
Throughout the performance people of all abilities, including several dancing from their wheelchairs are seamlessly woven into the fabric of the choreography. A particularly moving Snow Scene highlights creative partnerships and collaborations between dancers of all abilities, proving when we work together we all have the potential to achieve great things and challenge ourselves in ways we have not yet realized. Exhilarated audiences can be seen leaving the show with smiles of joy and tears of inspiration over the powerful way Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks artistically blends the variety of ages, talents, and abilities throughout the performance.
After 20 years of performance in its native Albuquerque, NM, Keshet Dance Company retired their rendition of Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks in 2016, leaving Helena with the prestigious honor of being the only location where this innovative production is performed. With a record cast of over 90 community dancers, the 2017 performance features local talents Kellee Blom, Madi Kelly, and Julynn Wilderson in lead roles alongside visiting guest artist Felix LaBella III of Tampa, Florida.
Packed full of excitement from the opening curtain to the final bow, this thrilling performance is not to be missed!
Show times: Saturday, November 25 at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 26 at 2:00pm.
