Historic Halloween
5:30 PM
Montana Historical Society (east of the Capitol)
Description:
On Thursday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., while you’re out trick-or-treating we invite you to stop by the Original Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of 6th and Ewing, for a treat. You may be invited inside to help find the mansion’s ghost cat! If you dare!

Beginning in 1913, Samuel Stewart was the first governor to live in the Original Governor’s Mansion. His three daughters—Emily, Marjorie, and Lea—did not trick-or-treat when they were little. Instead, children often played tricks on Halloween. The girls made “rattlers” from a nail, wooden thread spool, and string. They would sneak outside someone’s window and run the rattlers down the glass, making a scary rat-tat-tat noise! We promise not to scare visitors to the Original Governor’s Mansion too much this Halloween!
